My illustrations featured people that have brought meaning to my life, such as family members, friends, and mentors. I also created illustrations for the Lilith Agency, an organization that promotes diversity, inclusion and equity in the workplace. Lilith Agency provides tools, resources and training to help organizations create an equitable and inclusive workplace. Through my illustrations, I was able to visually express how these people had impacted my life, as well as the values of the Lilith Agency.
The following illustration is my first project ever made and it’s of my gold-hearted Surinamese friend Dione. Since it was my first one I have ever made I kept the goal simple which is to create different brushes, the drawing, coloring, shading, and the drip effect. By creating a gold and a dark version upside down next to each other I wanted to also hereby illustrate and put emphasis on the duality of personality.
The second project is an illustration of my crazy funny Dominican friend Jimmy. His personality and traits represent duality and a sense of universalness. Duality or rather the dark and light aspects is also illustrated in the composition of the first picture. The goals for this project was to draw and add details to the body and his locs, and to experiment with a background by adding different elements to the portrait that still keeps close the concept of Jimmy which is one symbolizing the universal aspect, nature, freedom (butterflies), strong character (horns).
